Today's highlight was a lake cruise on Lake Siljan, the lake where the island of Solleron is located. The day was very nice with comfortable temps and sunshine at least part of the day. Mats, Karin, Sara and Lars were wonderful hosts and we enjoyed lunch on the cruise. The area is so beautiful.

Can you see a pattern here?

Before the cruise, we went to see where the Dala horses are made, it was interesting watching the process and watching the women painting and the men carving. This area is known for these painted horses.

I think this maybe the cutest phone booth ever.

This is the church in Mora. It is beautiful but has an unusual pulpit. It sticks out in the middle of some of the front left pews and the statue below is on the railing. There are four hourglasses. Does this indicate the timing of the sermon? Why the skull? The church has a long history dating back to the 1700s.

We had a driving tour of the island today that gave us a better idea of where we are in relation to the town so Judy and I walked into town when we returned. The roads twist and wind so it isn't easy to know where you are. It felt great to loosen up some tight muscles after all the traveling . We went into the Solleron church as well and the choir was practicing, very well I might add. The cemetery is in the yard of the church, just as in Mora.

This is Solleron.
I know I'm leaving out details but it's getting late. I hope the pictures tell the story better than me.
Let me end with this photo and puzzler. What is my mom doing?

Mom is listening?
ReplyDeleteI pulled up a map so I could see the lake, towns and island while I read. Thanks for the pictures. Did you buy any dala's?
