Going to Sweden!

This is going to be a different trip than the others I've taken. I've gone to Europe with Roger to travel and see the sights, to Japan as a teacher ambassador, to China as a teacher and now to Sweden to find my roots. My mom, sister and I will be generously hosted by Mats, Sara and Karin, my fourth cousins if we're counting correctly. We've met in Minnesota when they've traveled here and I felt a connection with them right away.

I have a strong connection to my family but, honestly, I often feel indifferent to my genealogy. I have siblings that I love and care for who are not genetically related to me and relatives that wouldn't recognize me on the street. Family is who is there for you and loves you, that's my philosophy. Maybe crossing that half century mark has changed me, maybe it's something I haven't figured out, but going on this journey feels like it will be my connection to my ancestral roots.

Mats, Karin and Sara have an itinerary filled with family, Swedish culture and fun. I don't know if I'll have access to the Internet regularly but I hope to keep this blog as a way to remember the adventure. Join me!
